Biography
Maharani Tarabai was the queen of Rajaram Maharaj and the daughter of the Maratha commander-in-chief Hambirrao Mohite. After Rajaram's death in 1700, she became regent for her infant son Shivaji II and led the Maratha resistance against the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. She was an outstanding military strategist and commander who personally directed the war against the Mughals, keeping the Maratha fight for independence alive during its most difficult period. Her leadership was crucial in the eventual Maratha victory and the collapse of Aurangzeb's Deccan campaign.
